  • A growth mindset is the belief that we can get better at anything with effort, learning, and persistence. It’s the idea that our talents and intelligence are not set in stone—we can grow them, just like muscles, through practice and hard work. When someone has a growth mindset, they don’t give up when things get tough. Instead, they see challenges as chances to improve. They understand that failing doesn’t mean they aren’t smart or talented—it just means they haven’t figured it out *yet*. This small word—*yet*—makes a huge difference. It keeps the door open for progress and reminds us that every expert was once a beginner.

What makes a growth mindset powerful is how it changes the way we live. In school, it helps students stay curious and confident. At work, it inspires people to take on new challenges without fear. In life, it builds resilience, patience, and strength. It teaches us that success isn’t about being perfect; it’s about growing a little every day. When we focus on effort instead of just results, we stop comparing ourselves to others and start competing with our past selves. And slowly, we begin to notice how far we’ve come.

Having a growth mindset means changing the way we talk to ourselves. Instead of saying, “I can’t do this,” we learn to say, “I can’t do this yet, but I will if I keep trying.” That simple shift can open up a world of possibilities. In a world that often celebrates quick wins and natural talent, a growth mindset reminds us that real success takes time, courage, and belief in ourselves. It helps us see every struggle not as a stop sign, but as a stepping stone. And that makes all the difference.

  • According to Nigerian Tribune, former governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate under the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has advised young Nigerians to embrace hard work and entrepreneurship, instead of focusing on shortcuts to success. He made this known while speaking at the first edition of the Amatutu Community Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Summit. The event, which took place in his hometown of Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, brought together many young people from across the region.
Peter Obi used the opportunity to express concern over what he described as a worrying trend among some youths who are desperate to get rich quickly without considering the long-term consequences. He urged them to understand the value of genuine effort and to cultivate habits that promote sustainable development. According to him, success built on hard work not only lasts longer but also helps to build a better society. He explained that entrepreneurship offers more meaningful rewards than unlawful pursuits.

During his address at the summit, Obi gave personal insights into his family background. He mentioned that his father was once a wealthy man who owned luxurious properties and several vehicles, including three Mercedes Benz cars in the late 1950s. He explained that despite this, the family did not hold on to those material things forever. This, he noted, serves as an example that wealth can come and go, but values and principles remain. He encouraged the youth to focus on acquiring knowledge, building character, and developing useful skills that would prepare them for future leadership and business roles.
