Google and Apple Join Forces on Gemini AI: A Billion-Dollar Partnership Set to Transform Siri and Cloud Intelligence
Google CEO Sundar Pichai has expressed strong enthusiasm about the company’s expanding partnership with Apple, describing it as a major milestone in Google’s cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) strategy. Speaking during Google’s fourth-quarter earnings call, Pichai highlighted the collaboration as a significant vote of confidence in Google’s technology.
According to Pichai, Google is now working with Apple as its preferred cloud provider, while also collaborating on the next generation of Apple Foundation Models built on Google’s Gemini AI technology. This partnership, he noted, reflects Google’s growing influence in enterprise cloud services and advanced AI development.
The collaboration took a major step forward last month when Google and Apple officially announced a multi-year agreement reportedly valued at $1 billion annually. Under the deal, Google’s Gemini models and cloud infrastructure will power key elements of Apple’s future AI roadmap.
In a joint statement, both companies confirmed that the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Gemini, enabling upcoming Apple Intelligence features. One of the most anticipated outcomes is a more personalized and capable Siri, expected to roll out this year. Apple emphasized that while Gemini will provide the AI foundation, Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and through Private Cloud Compute, maintaining the company’s strict privacy standards.
Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis also weighed in on the partnership, saying he is extremely proud that Gemini emerged as Apple’s top choice after a rigorous evaluation of multiple AI providers. In a recent interview, Hassabis revealed that Google is actively developing efficient AI models optimized for edge devices, such as smartphones, and potentially even for robotics applications.
Together, these developments signal a powerful alliance between two of the world’s most influential technology companies—one that could redefine how AI is experienced across Apple’s ecosystem while strengthening Google’s position at the forefront of cloud and artificial intelligence innovation.
