  • Daniel Bwala, an aide to President Bola Tinubu has said that almost all the members of opposition parties will be joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) in due time.

The presidential aide expressed his joy over the defection of the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

According to Bwala, a former presidential candidate in the 2023 election would also join the APC.

His words, “Delta in the bag, almost all opposition members are coming, including a former vice presidential candidate in the 2023 election.”

Bwala also described the coalition championed by Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai as a “coalition of confusing confusion”.

He noted that there are only two political parties in Nigeria.

He said, “Coalition of confusing confusion; Una never see anything yet. A former presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election is warming up as well.

  • In a shocking turn of events, the President of the Student Union Government (SUG) at Delta State Polytechnic was shot and assaulted by police officers late last night, raising serious concerns about police conduct and student safety.

Eyewitnesses say the incident unfolded around 10 PM when the SUG president, who has been an outspoken advocate for student rights, was returning to campus after attending an event. Reports indicate that a patrol team stopped him under unclear circumstances, leading to a confrontation. Before anyone could fully grasp the situation, shots were fired, leaving the student leader injured and in distress.

The atmosphere on campus has shifted dramatically since the news broke. Students are understandably shaken, many expressing their fear and anger over the incident. “It’s heart-wrenching to see someone who fights for our rights become a victim of violence,” said a fellow student, visibly upset. “We expect to feel safe, especially at our own school. This shouldn’t happen.”

The police department has released a statement claiming the officers acted in self-defense, but many are questioning this account. Students and faculty alike are calling for a thorough investigation, demanding accountability and clarity about what truly transpired that night.

As the SUG president recovers in the hospital, the community is rallying in support. Vigils and peaceful protests are being organized to honor his courage and to advocate for justice. “We will not be silenced,” one student proclaimed, echoing the sentiment of many who feel that their voices must be heard.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing issues regarding police interactions with civilians, particularly in vulnerable communities. As the situation develops, it’s crucial for all of us to stand together in solidarity, ensuring that our voices are not just heard, but acted upon.

For now, the Delta State Polytechnic community is holding its breath, hoping for swift justice and a future where students can advocate for their rights without fear of violence. The question remains: how do we move forward from this tragic event, and what steps can be taken to ensure it never happens again? The conversation is just beginning, and it’s one that we all need to be a part of.
